About the farm

Farm history

I started establishing the farm in 1991, back in the times of collective farms (kolkhozes), when I acquired my first “Belarus” tractor. Even then, I grew potatoes, kept pigs, and raised cattle. After the collective farms dissolved and I reclaimed my own land, I began independently growing grain crops while simultaneously learning to farm through practical experience. The farm was built from scratch – from an empty field, so this journey has lacked neither challenges nor achievements.

During the first years, I worked with used Soviet machinery, and a significant breakthrough occurred in 2010 when, with the help of EU support, I purchased my first Western tractor. Having an education in veterinary medicine, I had a better understanding of animal care, but over time, I also acquired agronomic knowledge, which allowed me to strengthen the crop farm. Nevertheless, my connection with animals has always remained strong.

In 2020, I took an important step – I built a modern barn and started raising Charolais cattle. The first 40 heifers and 2 bulls arrived at the farm. From the very beginning, my goal was to create a breeding and commercial farm, which is why I additionally invested in high-quality genetics from France. I believe that strong genetics are the foundation for healthy, productive animals and high-quality meat.

Charolais cows with calves graze in the pastures around Dituva – both natural and cultivated pastures. From early spring to late autumn, the cattle are kept outdoors, and they return to the barn for winter. During the summer, I prepare feed for the winter – hay, haylage, straw, and corn silage. I aim to ensure a complete, balanced diet and proper growth conditions for the animals all year round.

Why I chose Charolais cattle

When choosing a beef cattle breed, I considered two – Limousin and Charolais. It was important to me that the animals were calm, good-natured, sturdy, and productive. Ultimately, I chose the Charolais breed – it is one of the most popular breeds in France and is considered a true pride of the country.

This choice reflects my goal – to raise strong, quality cattle and ensure that their meat is tender, juicy, and premium. My objective is for quality beef from my farm to reach your table directly, without compromises.

How our animals live

Natural pastures

The cattle graze in natural and cultivated pastures, where they can move freely and grow in their natural environment.

Homegrown feed

We grow and prepare the feed on our own farm – hay, haylage, and corn silage.

Continuous care

The health of the animals is continuously monitored and cared for, based on veterinary experience and a responsible approach to their welfare.

Charolais breed

Charolais cattle are a beef breed originating from the regions of central France. Although their exact origin is not fully clear, it is known that the breed developed from local cattle many centuries ago – white cattle were already mentioned in this region back in the 9th century. Over time, Charolais became an important part of the French beef industry and gained wider global recognition after World War II.

These are large, heavily built cattle characterized by a deep and wide body. Mature bulls can weigh around a ton or more, while cows weigh a few hundred kilograms less. They are usually white or light cream in color, with light-colored horns and hooves. Polled (hornless) animals also occur within the breed, and today they make up an increasing share of the herds.

Charolais are valued for their excellent growth characteristics and high meat quality – especially the well-developed loin and hindquarter (round) parts. Because of this, they are suitable for raising to heavier weights and are also widely used for crossbreeding to improve the traits of other breeds. This breed arrived in Lithuania relatively recently – around 1995 – and over this time, it has managed to establish itself as one of the reliable beef cattle breeds.
